By December 2018 the egret nesting tree that had been an inspiring wonder and celebrated for decades had died and was cut down. On December 21, 2018, a snowy egret that didn’t migrate wades the shoreline where the rangy Monterey pine that hosted the egret colony had once leaned over the lagoon.
